Construction

Project reporting and progression of projects for large and small construction projects

Construction

Project reporting and progression of projects for large and small construction projects

Can drones save you time and money with construction projects?

We offer construction site monitoring and reporting- 2D Images, orthomosaic images, and measuring volumes of pits and piles and our mapping software calculates the amount of dirt or earth to be moved in subject areas. Remote project engineers and owners can be updated with accurate images on a daily or weekly basis, saving time and money and improving the efficiency of your projects. On construction sites, where the risk and cost of mistakes are extremely high, drones show a lot of promise for saving time and money. Construction projects are often extremely complex with many time-consuming tasks that can be simplified, automated and accelerated by using drones.

Construction Project Videos:

Our team of UAS Pilots and Video editing staff can produce construction progress reporting videos for clients and marketing purposes to showcase your home or construction companies capabilities.  Below is a sample video for Brighton Builders of a home rebuild project on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Project Highlight:

Below are some pictures and mission videos of the Hampton lake project we captured each week for the Reed Group in Bluffton SC. This project involved weekly aerial imaging of the project from start to finish.

Here are some important ways drones can help improve jobsite efficiency, saving construction firms both time and money:

Construction Services:

  • 2D mapping: One of the biggest financial benefits of using drones the ability to create highly accurate 2D topography models. Drones provide a cost-effective, fast way of mapping build sites and existing facilities, while gathering geographical and topographical data in the form of photography, Lidar and video.
  • Mapping data: Video and 2D and photographic image data can be instantly uploaded and shared with stakeholders anywhere in the world. What’s more, time is money, and 2D mapping via drones saves lots of it. Drones have been shown to cut surveying time for a 12-acre property from 100 hours down to about 2 hours of flying time. Our drones can produce 3D and elevation maps that can also be extremely helpful.
  • High-definition maps: These can be created in a fraction of the time it used to take. Drones also make it easier to survey locations that are difficult to access, reducing safety hazards. Drones are cheaper to fly than small aircraft and don’t require a pilot.
  • Improved project management, reporting and tracking: Our FAA certified pilots use 20 megapixel cameras,  drones can capture images rapidly and even stream live video to remote project managers. This footage can be uploaded automatically into cloud-based project management software, and easily shared with stakeholders regardless of location, to keep them abreast of a project’s progress. Real-time data enables faster, more informed decision-making throughout construction and the ability to mitigate delays or other issues before they cost firms money.

  • Better security and surveillance: Drones can help construction firms produce accurate surveys of progress and site inventory quickly and cost-effectively. They eliminate human error and are able to capture data faster than an inspector walking the site. Drones also enable firms to perform jobsite surveillance, not only to ensure employees aren’t wasting time or violating safety codes, but to prevent potential hazards. Photography and live footage becomes convincing in the case of thefts or misused equipment, or other security violations.
  • Effective communication on the project: Drones simplify and enhance communication with investors and stakeholders, particularly those who are not local. Aerial photography captured by drones can be streamed live and accessed by connected devices anywhere, anytime. This capability helps cut travel time and expense—investors need not travel to the job site and project managers can keep them in the loop with frequent and highly insightful video updates.
  • Improved efficiency: All of these benefits lead to increased efficiency—most likely reducing the workforce needed on a drone-assisted jobsite. Industry estimates for the current value of labor and services that may be replaced by drones is about $127.3 billion, a third of which comes from the infrastructure and construction industries (Source Business Insider- May 11,2016). The ability of drones to collect and report on data enables you to complete projects faster at at lower cost. Faster completion means you can take on more work in the same amount of time.
  • Competitive advantage & differentiation: Construction firms who use drones can bid lower and be more competitive than firms that don’t. Drones can be used to survey jobsites before work begins—even before bidding. They provide up-to-date, detailed data, helping you bid more accurately and avoid surprise costs. Adding drone-collected photography and video footage, as well as 2D maps created with data collected from drones, makes a lasting impression and may differentiate you from other bidders.
  • Improved marketing of your projects and win more work: Aerial images of your project will help you with marketing your projects. In fact, many projects can be monitored from start to finish and these can be condensed in 2-3 minute videos of your projects for future and prospective clients.

Aerial Mapping & Surveying Support- Saving time and money for surveyors and contractors

Land Surveying Aerial Imaging Support

aerial-photo-survey1.jpg

A successful development project begins with an accurate land survey, which is why it’s critical for organizations to capitalize on the latest in surveying technology. Unmanned aerial systems (UASs), or drones, are one example of a new technology that is delivering better results for land surveyors worldwide. Read on to learn the specific ways that adopting UAS to support surveying products can help.

Aerial Drones Cut Costs and Improve Efficiency- Traditional land-surveying methods require a significant amount of time and effort to achieve results. If a project covers a large area or includes rough terrain that surveyors would find difficult to traverse on land, then the situation is exacerbated. A slow, time-consuming land-surveying process is much more than mere inconvenience. When an organization has to wait for surveying to finish before it can proceed with the actual project work, then timelines for the project to become a profitable investment get pushed back. In addition, more hours worked by a surveyor equals more money coming out of the developer’s pockets.

With these thoughts in mind, it’s no wonder so many developers are looking for a better way. With UAV surveying, companies can save money and time by completing survey work faster. UAVs can cover large areas of terrain in a relatively short period of time, and because they operate in the air, they can cover all terrain in the same amount of time, no matter how dense or difficult for humans to traverse. As a result, companies get the surveying data they need, turned around quickly, so the project can proceed with fewer interruptions

Use Drones for 2D, 3D & Elevation Mapping

3D Image of Construction Job in Bluffton, SC

3D Image of Construction Job in Bluffton, SC

Using advanced techniques, our expert drone pilots can efficiently deliver highly accurate photogrammetry for different fields such as topographic mapping, architecture, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, police investigation and geology, as well as by archaeologists to quickly produce plans of large or complex sites.  Thanks to the onboard GPS of the drone, typically our drones have an absolute error of only half a meter, though ground control points could be integrated to give centimeter precision to the absolute locations.

How do we do it

We use high megapixel cameras on stabilized camera mounts to deliver true georeferenced maps that are cost efficient and timely. Consider the cost or accuracy that would be associated with hiring helicopters or other aircraft that are supplied with the necessary photogrammetry equipment. The process is a matter of flying a drone from a waypoint to capture multiple overlapping photographs of the ground or model which will be pieced together to construct the 2D or 3D mapping or desired 3D model. This process would be virtually impossible to duplicate, let alone at the accuracy rate using a piloted aircraft.
